Claude Goes Down Again, Anthropic Working on Fix for 5-Series Errors

Anthropic’s Claude suffered a fresh service disruption on Wednesday, August 5, with elevated error rates affecting all four models in its Claude 5 series: Mythos 5, Fable 5, Opus 5, and Sonnet 5.

Users reported that the chatbot returned a “This response didn’t load” error message across web and API access. Outage tracker Downdetector logged a sharp increase in user reports, and complaints spread quickly on social media.

Anthropic acknowledged the incident through its official status page. “We have identified the cause of elevated errors on requests to Claude Mythos 5, Claude Fable 5, Claude Opus 5 and Claude Sonnet 5 and are working on a fix,” the company said. It did not disclose the technical cause of the elevated error rates or provide an estimated time to resolution.

The disruption follows a broader Claude outage on July 29, when network failures took all Claude models offline for several hours. That earlier incident was attributed to infrastructure-level issues by the company.

The company has not yet indicated whether the two outages share a common cause.
